Most silk needs to be dyed, but not this silk that is made by spiders. This silk is used to make special garments in Madagascar. The cape and shawl that are mentioned in the video were on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and seem to be in an exhibit that is traveling the world. The spider silk is also very strong, and there is a product in development for spider silk to potentially be used in bullet proof vests. The spider silk is collected by hand, and does not harm the spiders, but there are not that many spiders in captivity. Therefore, in development is a way to have silkworm caterpillars produce the same proteins that the spiders use to make their stronger silk.
