Polymer clay is relatively new, but if you are looking to be artistic and find an enjoyable craft to do, it might be easier to get into than traditional forms of ceramics. This is because polymer clay can be baked in a conventional or a convection oven which is just like a conventional oven, but includes a fan. Some toaster ovens can also be used to bake the polymer clay, but it can be more difficult than using your regular oven since most toaster ovens are not very good at keeping an even temperature.
It is recommended that you invest in an oven thermometer, so that you can keep an even temperature while baking the clay. The first video is about basic cane making. Canes are built when you assemble different layers of colored clay to make an interesting square or round design in the form of a cylinder that can be sliced into multiples that can be used to make pins, earrings, beads, or other creative objects.
This next video shows you how to make a rose cane, which is more complex than the canes in the video above. By the time she is done with her demonstration you can see how cleverly the three different colors of clay are combined to make the cane, when sliced, look very much like a rose.
